Willis was born and spent his childhood in Ohio. He graduated from Hawken School in 1964 and from Tufts University in Boston, MA in 1968 with a BA in Chemistry. He moved to California after his parents relocated there in 1970.
Willis loved his solitude and found it in many of the places he lived. He moved to Sonoma County, California in the mid 70’s and found many beautiful, tranquil places to live. He enjoyed hiking the hills and coastline and using his photographic abilities to capture the essence of those places. Willis was interested in a wide variety of subjects as his book collection can attest, and, on his walks, he knew all the flora and fauna as well as their cycles through the seasons. On other subjects he would dive in depth to understand the basis of things and how they worked in our world. He prized keeping his mind active and inquiring.
He was a kind and gentle man and will be missed.
