Rick passed away on December 12 after spending the last few weeks constantly supported by the love of his family and friends. Rick was a loving father, brother, uncle, partner, friend, and mentor. Rick dedicated his professional life to the Public Works Department for the City of Santa Rosa as a civil engineer, serving for 33 years. Some of his proudest career achievements include his contributions to Prince Memorial Greenway and Fountain Grove Parkway. More importantly he was deeply proud of the success and happiness of his family. After retiring as the Director of the Public Works Department in 2014, Rick continued working for Coastland and teaching at the Santa Rosa Junior College. In retirement, Rick enjoyed traveling, DJing as Doctor Mohaire, playing in ukulele groups, writing music, volunteering as a CASA, and finding love and partnership again. Rick was preceded in death by his late wife Joanie, and is survived by his children Zack, Kelly, Dominique, Thomas, and his dog Posey. He will be remembered by his numerous friends throughout the county for his passion for music of all genres, dedication to his community through service, love of games, and kind and funny personality. He will be dearly missed.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2026 at 11:00am at Finley Community Center in Santa Rosa. Friends, family are invited to join us to celebrate Rick and the joy he brought to all of our lives.
