Randy Paul Rowley passed away May 1 at home, after a short illness.
He was born April 6, 1947, in Denver, Colorado to Pearl and Delbert Rowley. He grew up in Westminster, Colorado and graduated from Ranum High School.
Randy enlisted in the Army Security Agency in 1968 and was stationed in Asmara, Eritrea. He sent for his childhood sweetheart, Kitty, and they were married there. They spent three wonderful years in Asmara, where they made lifelong friends and were able to travel throughout Ethiopia, Kenya, Morocco, Ireland, Sweden and Europe.
After his military service, Randy attended Sonoma State University and graduated with a B.S. in Geology. He worked with environmental engineering companies, doing landslide and earthquake investigations.
Randy loved reading and wherever he was, a book was within reach. Music was equally important to him. He acquired a vast music library of every genre. He loved off-road trips, especially if it involved rock hunting with his father-in-law. His road trips were shared discoveries of his connection to the earth. He had a stealthy poker face and often changed the rules to his benefit. His dry wit, sly smile, and storytelling prowess captivated many willing listeners.
Randy is survived by his wife of 55 years, Kitty; daughter, Marisa; son, Devin; and grandson, Anders, of Santa Rosa; his devoted sisters, Carol and Nancy; and many loving, cherished family members in Colorado.
A graveside service for family and friends will be held in Colorado Springs in July. The family is grateful for all those involved in his care.
