Lynn McArthur Wheelwright passed peacefully into the next life early on the morning of Monday, December 23rd, 2024. He was surrounded by family and friends who sang him on his way. Lynn was born on February 5th, 1946, to Lorin Farrar Wheelwright and Ila Eugenia Spilsbury in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was the youngest member of his family, and was preceded in death by his sisters Mona Lowe, Sylvia Cundick, and Donna Skudstad.
Lynn showed an early propensity for electrical engineering and completed his freshman year at Stanford University, where he enjoyed playing french horn in the Marching Band. Lynn then served a church mission to Germany. He completed his engineering degrees (Bachelors and Masters) at Brigham Young University. Lynn worked as a research and development engineer in the Microwave Instruments Division of Hewlett Packard (later Agilent Technologies and currently Keysite Technologies), first in Palo Alto, and then in Santa Rosa. He stayed with the company until he retired. Lynn was instrumental in designing and developing many of HP’s signal analyzers, and the firmware which supports them. He holds 5 patents.
Lynn worked tirelessly to support his sweetheart, Melva Lee Allred, in many musical, theatrical, and artistic endeavors. He was an accomplished pianist and sang a beautiful tenor. He gave tirelessly to the community, opening his home to many who needed a safe haven.
Lynn is survived by his beloved wife, Melva; his children, Drew Fegan, Lance (Kyung Sook), Wendy, Liesel (Aaron Hall), and Andrew (Sara); and grandchildren: Morgan, Carsten, Landon, and Maelee (Drew); Angel, Justice, and Earnest (Lance & Kyungsook); Sabrina, Joseph, Felicity, Monique, and Leilani (Liesel & Aaron Hall); Joshua, Elisabeth, Elijah, Samuel, Hyrum, and Hannah (Andrew & Sara).
