Obituary

Reed Walker passed away on July 4 at age 81. He is survived by his wife of 51 years Marilyn Walker and his three children (Anna Walker of Berkeley, Reed Walker of Santa Rosa, Lyn Ivans of West Sacramento) and his sister Sally Hetrick of Upper Black Eddy, PA and brother Samuel Walker of Sharon, PA. Reed is also survived by seven grandchildren (Madilyn Walker, Keelyn Walker, Ben Perlman, Eliot Smith, Sally Ivans, Maxwell Ivans, Samuel Ivans). He was predeceased by his parents Leon Reed Walker, MD and Helen Lenora Coleman Walker and his brother Henry Walker.

Reed was born in Altoona, PA on November 9, 1941 and grew up in his beloved Hollidaysburg, PA. He graduated from Pennsylvania State University and received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College of Philadelphia before serving in the U.S. Navy as general medical officer in Japan and Vietnam. After leaving the service, Reed came to Santa Rosa to complete his family medical residency and remained in Santa Rosa, where he served the local community with a family medical practice for more than 50 years.

Reed provided more than 25 years of volunteer service as a Santa Rosa Junior College student health physician, supporting student athletes at football games and other athletic events, as well as providing health services at the campus clinic. He was a member of the Sonoma County Medical Association, California Medical Association, American Medical Association, Academy of Family Practice, Organ Historical Society, American Guild of Organists, and served many years as a member of the board of directors of the Northern California Center for Well-being.

In accordance with Reed’s wishes, there will be no memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to Northern California Center for Well-Being (https://www.norcalwellbeing.org/donate/).
