Kathryn Sawyer Obituary

Kathryn Sawyer Beloved Mother and Grandmother

Kathryn “Kathy” Sawyer passed away peacefully on July 4, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. She was a woman of deep feeling, sharp wit, and boundless creativity, and she will be profoundly missed.

Born October 11th, 1949, in San Francisco; she was a true Californian who loved everything about San Francisco and had many fond memories growing up there. She moved to Santa Rosa in 1976 with her parents to stay close to them.

Kathy was preceded in death by her husband, David Sawyer, and her parents, William and Patricia Wickliffe. She is survived by her devoted children, Julianne Overshiner and Travis Sawyer; her loving brother, William Wickliffe Jr. and sister-in-law, Martha Wickliffe; and her cherished grandchildren—Rosalie, Nora, Ari, and Kaia—who brought immense joy to her life.

Kathy found beauty in everyday life and magic in the ordinary. Despite the many challenges life placed before her, she always sought joy in simple pleasures—whether it was playing the piano, watching a good scary movie, or losing herself in a painting project. Her home was filled with handmade decorations and beautiful paintings, a reflection of her artistic spirit and her love of self-expression.

She especially loved Halloween, her favorite holiday, when creativity, imagination, and a little bit of mystery came together—just like her.

Kathy's legacy lives on in the laughter of her grandchildren, the memories held close by her family, and the art and music that colored her days. Her life was not always easy, but it was full of meaning, marked by love, resilience, and an unshakable belief in finding light even in the darkest of times.
