Germaine "Geri" Louise Amato, born June 26, 1937, passed peacefully into eternal life during the early morning hours of February 19, 2023. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 66 years, Carmelo "Mel" Amato and her son Joseph Carmelo Amato. Geri is survived by her children, Anna Amato, Anita Amato Rushlow, Anthony Amato (Melissa), grandsons Dominic Good and Nicholas Amato, brother and sisters-in-law Raymond Amato (Vinzi), Joan Gregor, Diane Amato, as well as many dear cousins, nephews and nieces.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Geri (née Grdina) graduated from Notre Dame Academy High School and her Family was an integral and vibrant part of the Cleveland's multi-cultural business and faith-based community fabric. Throughout her life, Geri was a compassionate and generous person in addition to being wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, friend and business partner.
Once past the years of raising four children, Geri would continue on a life-long journey with her husband. For 20 years, Geri was an equal business partner with Mel in a Family-owned, technology-based company, located in the heart of Silicon Valley and the ingrained Grdina Family business acumen of her youth translated into a perfect and valuable set of strengths to the team of 'Mel & Geri'. In the golden years of both hers and her husband's life-chapter, centered in Healdsburg, California, Geri was a strong supporter of both the secular and spiritual communities of this - Geri and Mel's - beloved small town.
Geri also assisted Mel for many years in support of the Healdsburg Museum's many charitable events. She strongly supported and volunteered at the local food bank and Healdsburg's Senior Center. Further, she (and Mel) gave their unwavering support to St. John the Baptist Church and School. Baking was one of Geri's many talents and passions and for many years, she would donate her time and energy to 'feed' first responders and various organizations in the area with her amazing baked goods creations.
Memorial services will be held for Geri on Monday, March 6th at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, located at 208 Matheson Street, Healdsburg, CA 95448. Visitation will be from 3 PM to 4:30 PM. A Rosary prayer service begins at 5 PM, with the Memorial Mass following at 6 PM, culminating with a Reception gathering in the school gym at 7 PM (including refreshments and some of Geri's favorite desserts).
The Burial service will be at Noon on Tuesday, March 7th, at Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery in Los Altos, CA. All who wish to join the family at Geri's final resting place are welcome to attend.
In Geri's memory, and in lieu of flowers, the Family would gratefully encourage and welcome donations to the St. John the Baptist Healdsburg School Foundation: https://sjshbg.org/foundation.
