Carolyn Velasquez (nee Mesple), age 74, passed away unexpectedly Friday morning, November 29th, 2024, at her home in Oakmont Village. She is survived and missed by her sister Elaine, daughter Kelly, son-in-law James, and her two granddaughters Grace and Hope. She also leaves behind her nephew Scott, niece Nicole, nephew-in-law Andrew, grandniece Sloan, brother-in-law Dick, and a loving collection of friends and chosen family.
Carolyn was born on August 6, 1950 in Fresno, California. She cherished her memories of her time spent on her parent’s farm and held a deep love for the land of the San Joaquin valley. She was predeceased by her mother Mary, father Edward, and brothers Eddie and Randy. Carolyn raised her daughter Kelly as a single mother, living most of her life within walking or short driving distance of her in both California and Chicago. Affectionately known as “Googie” to her granddaughters, Carolyn took great pride in her role as a grandmother. She also cherished her grand-dogs Lester and Barnabas. A lover of baking and arts & crafts, Googie leaves behind a legacy of countless warm memories of time spent making things. A small celebration of life will be held by friends and family at her home on Saturday, January 4th 2025 from 2-5pm. Questions regarding the celebration of life can be sent to knjhague@yahoo.com. Donations in Carolyn’s honor can be made to Nourishing Hope Chicago (fka Lakeview Pantry), where she volunteered with dedication throughout her years living in the Windy City.
