ROTHER, MARGARET WAGENET – Passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 1, 2010, in Santa Rosa, California at the age of 90. A native daughter of California, born in Oakland. Margaret was a wonderful and vibrant woman who enjoyed life to the fullest. After attending Liberty High School in the 1930’s, she attended the University of California at Berkeley. Marrying Ellis Rother in 1941, after the end of the war they embarked on an innovative community neighborhood subdivision in Campbell, California. She and Ellis were very entrepreneurial and had two successful businesses; Margaret’s favorite being Rother’s Sewing Center in San Carlos, California. As a couple, Margaret and Ellis led Sierra Club trips to Mexico in the 1960’s and 70’s. In 1987, they made their home in Oakmont, Santa Rosa. From there they traveled the world and were part of the Oakmont RV Rovers. In 2000, Margaret went with the “Flying Samaritans” to South America as an interpreter, because of her proficiency in Spanish. In 2004/05, Margaret overcame the challenge of lymphoma and multiple myoloma, putting them in remission, by relying on her belief in God and her positive attitude. Loving and devoted wife of the late Ellis A. Rother, Sr., cherished mother of Diane (Mark) Newton of Carmel Valley, Ellis A. (Barbara) Rother, Jr. of Sacramento and Brook A. (Laura) Rother of Georgetown, California. Much loved grandmother of Roger (Kulli) Newton, Aaron (Ines) Rother, Joshua Rother, Jed Rother, Theodora (Kevin) Rother and Nikolas (Maryann) Rother. Beloved great grandmother of Jacob Newton, Sophia Rother and Kevin Ramos IV. Dear daughter of the late Julien and Bertha Wagenet. Loving sister of Marilyn W. Joens and the late Julien M. Wagenet. Also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and her loving companion, Robert Miller. |
