Passed away with his family by his side on May 9, 2010 after a brief illness at age 88. Beloved husband of 61 years of Wilma Milby. Loving father of Cathleen Oakes (Chris), Diane Myers (Jim), and Debbie Poulnot (Jean-Michael). Grandfather of Beth Drumm (Aaron), Jonathan Oakes (Pam), Katie Casalnuovo (David), Kelli Martinez (Maurio), Kyle Myers. Proud great grandfather of Max and Jackson Drumm, Izabelle Martinez, Gavin and Vanessa Oakes and Natalie Casalnuovo. Survived by his brother, Charles B. Milby of Nebraska. |
Bob was born in Mitchell, Nebraska and grew up in Grand Island, Nebraska. He served in the Merchant Marines in World War II. He was the Chief Radio Operator on the SS Jeremiah O'Brien at Normandy on D Day. Years later he lived near San Francisco and was able to board it often when it was taken out of the moth ball fleet and refurbished. He was honored on one cruise as he is the only veteran in the area who served on the O'Brien ship. At the end of the war he completed his education at the University of Nebraska where he received a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Bob and Wilma (Stevens) Milby were married in 1949. He worked at Sandia National Laboratory for 33 years, first in Albuqueque, NM and then in Livermore, CA. After living in Livermore for 42 years, Bob and Wilma moved to Oakmont.
Bob's hobbies were photography, lane bowling and riding his bicycle. After his retirement, Bob and Wilma traveled to Europe and all over the United States
Bob will be remembered by always having a smile on his face. He will be missed |
